I had a chance to work on a few things lately so I thought I'd share. Oh, wait! Before I start with all of that, I wanted to tell you guys what my daughters and I did.
We opened a brand new Etsy shop called Flying Pig Trinkets. It's a place where my 13 and 10 year old daughters can learn how to earn money of their own. They both got handed down the creative bug so they now have a venue to sell their creations. Whoo hoo! They're super excited and feel all grown up. So cute! If you get a minute, stop by their shop and favorite it so you can keep up with their newest creations. You can find the shop HERE, or on my sidebar here on the blog.
Okay, okay... back to what I've made lately....
First, I finished the doll for Kate. If you don't know who Kate is or why I'm making her a doll, you can read about it here and here. I don't think she reads my blog so I'm going to show you even though she hasn't received the doll yet. (Kate, if you do read my blog, close your browser window now!)....
Okay, I think it's safe now. I'd like to introduce "Love Bug"....
Here in Florida we get Love Bugs twice a year. They're actually a nuisance but because Kate did such an amazing thing for me, I thought a "Love" bug would be perfect. Here's what the real bugs look like...
As you can see, the colors I chose came directly from the real deal. Well, except for the black and white stripes but if you know me well, you know I'm obsessed with black and white stripes so I had to put them in there too. :0)
She's made in paperclay over a stryofoam and wood armature. I painted her in acrylics and sealed her with Mr. Super Clear and glossed her eyes and lips. Her wings are fabric that has been stiffened and applied over a wire armature. She's about 10 inches tall.
She's all packaged up and ready to hit the road tomorrow. I hope Kate likes her.
I also caught the paper bead bug. They are so addicting! I don't think I did anything other than rolling paper beads for like 3 days straight. The girls and I made a few bracelets out of some of them to sell in the FLYING PIG TRINKETS store. Here's a few pics of the bracelets... I love the ones made from magazine pages the most. The colors are just cool.
Love, love, love making paper beads!
I also taught the girls how to make a few polymer clay charms. First, we made some Kawaii Pastry Bag charms...
and then Jada and I made a few pie charms. Jada made a blueberry one. Didn't she do an awesome job?! So proud!
and I also made a blueberry one and a cherry one. I had so much fun making these! They turned out super cute.
It's summer time so the kiddos are home all day and we have been coming up with lots of projects to keep them busy. :) Here in FL, the heat and humidity make playing outside miserable. So, it's kind of like northerners with their winters, we just stay inside. If you're not at the pool or the beach it's just too miserable to be out there. I'm sure the people in the north-east and mid-west are dealing with that right now as well.
I'm rambling.... okay, I'm going to cut this off here. I want to hear all about how you're getting through the crazy weather and what you've been up to in your craft room/area as well. Hugs!
