Miniature Skelly Doll So Stinking Cute... if i do say so myslf

I pressed on last night and finished my little Skelly doll.  I think I'm in love.

He's 4 inches tall (not including his hat).  I sculpted him in stoneware clay and fired him in a kiln.  I used acrylic paints for his features.  He is jointed at the shoulders, elbows, hips and knees.  He sits perfectly on his own.

I have listed him on ebay and my etsy shop.

Moving Right Along... Some WIPs

I'm cranking right along here in the studio.  It is taking me a little longer than expected to complete my Bearded Lady Doll as my sewing machine decided to go caput on me.  Sigh... lots of cursing and hand stitching going on in here lately.  BUT, I have to say, I'm really loving how she's turning out.

I still need to make her boots and I'm considering giving her a top hat as well.  This is the time when I start looking a doll over and deciding what little details to throw in.  What do you think so far?

I'm also in the process of making a wee little Skelly doll that measures in at 4 inches tall.  He's jointed and can sit on his own perfectly.  He's a ceramic doll this time.  Made in stoneware clay and high fired. His joints are curing right now but tomorrow I hope to be able to paint him and add his accessories too.

Once I have these two finished, I have to finish up a Halloween Ornament for the ART DOLL ARTISTS Halloween Ornament Swap and I also have to finish another swap piece that's for a group on Facebook called Swap-it.  The theme for that one is Scarecrows and/or Pumpkins.  I have a great idea for it but don't know if I'll have time to pull it off.  We'll see.

The doll I will be creating after I finish all of the above will be inspired by this vintage Halloween postcard.  I wanted to create her last year but never got around to it.

There are so many projects I want to start and some I need to finish so stay tuned!  My creative mojo is in full swing and I plan to take full advantage of it.

What are you working on?

What Does Your Future Hold?

You know what's right around the corner right?  YES!  Halloween!  My absolute favorite time of the year.  Here in Florida we don't really get to see a bunch of trees changing color or breathe in crisp air at Halloween but I love it just the same.  Here it's still really warm and green in October.  Anyway.... I thought I'd help myself get in the spirit a bit early by making 2012's first Gypsy Table setting in 1:12 Dollhouse Miniature Scale.

I have to tell you, I'm pretty stinking proud of it and I am totally in love with the chairs!  Whatcha think?

If you're interested, you can find it in the Etsy shop or over on the right sidebar.

Better Late Than Never

Our doll group, Art Doll Artists (ADA), hosted a challenge earlier this year in the Vintage Circus/Sideshow theme.  I wasn't able to finish my piece on time and then I got several commissions and just couldn't seem to find time to work on it.  Today I sat down and started on her again.  You'll probably remember seeing photos of the head I posted a while back.  Remember the Bearded Lady???  Yep, that's what I'm finishing now.  I'm really excited about this piece and I can't wait to get her finished.  Here's where she's at now...

It's funny, before I started working on her, I cleared off my work table so I had lots of space to work in.  I'm only half way through this project and I'm already down to working in an 8" by 12" space.  By the end I bet I'll be working in my lap because the work table will be completely covered in "STUFF".  I so envy neat creatives.

See what I mean?

On a completely unrelated note, I leave you with a picture of two of my four fur babies.  They're just too stinking cute and have to get their 5 minutes of fame.  Introducing Blondie and Jinxie (Frick and Frack)... SO CUTE!

Okay, that is all.  Have a great day everyone!

For Me??? A New Commission

I just finished up a new commission that I'm really pleased with and I thought I would share it with all of you.

I received an email from the buyer asking me to create a special piece that would be a gift for her aunt, on her birthday.  She said she'd like an orange ladybug with an ant standing on top of it.  She wanted the ant to wear a top hat and to be holding a Black Eyed Susan flower as a gift to the ladybug.  She also said if I could incorporate an Alice in Wonderland feel that would be awesome.  This piece is loaded with symbolism that reflects some very fond memories of the buyer's time as a child with her aunt.  I couldn't wait to start on this piece!

Without further ado, I present to you, "For Me??".

19 inches tall, paperclay over Styrofoam and wood armature.
